Day 2.5 - Getting things done
Weekend 1 of working on Project Hexagon is done - and what progress we made!
We coded new game mechanics, we fixed first performance issues, we have a lot of the desired gameplay mechanics & features set up and implemented some of the assets already. The entire process of creating Project Hexagon feels like a very fluid back and forth, between S4ZZ1 and myself and also between "what comes next" - "what needs revision" and "oh, so apparently that broke the game". Fixing bugs, getting to know a lot about quite important dev-topics like Inheritance, Lists & Arrays, all kinds of Gameobject-Components is just a huge chance to improve in a short amount of time - and see the progress every single day!
We have a pretty clear vision of what the final game should look like by the end of this 10 day jam window. Can we realize that? Hard to say, but saying "no" to some stuff that we both would like to see implemented is a must! Next up we have implementing the remaining desired game features - the ones we think are implementable and in scope, importing assets step by step, work on Camera & Lighting as that will be crucial for the game to feel immersive and also for the georgeous assets to receive the shine they deserve. A lot more on the to do list, but it's always a great feeling to put a Checkmark behind one of our big To-Dos. Truth be told, we added just as much to the list as we finished, but those new To-Dos are of much smaller scope, one could almost say they're rather "polish" than actually of huge importance.
This project so far is a blast, we are struggling, we are improving daily, the things we plan most of the time work out - and overall this is a great team & dev experience. Hopefully at the end we have a game that is fun & sometimes difficult - a game that is visually in synch in most / all of its aspects - and a game that S4ZZ1 and I learned a lot from - and take all those valuable lessons into the next projects on our horizons!
Make sure to check us out again on the evening of May 30th ;)
