Day 1 - Deciding direction

Despite having a very fluid chemistry in terms of vision and direction between both Lewl and I, the first day was all about aligning the development ideas and possibilities with some form of logic in terms of design and the desired look and feel of the game.

As we're both in the relative beginning stages of what we do, we're obviously not sure of the issues that we're going to encounter. We've decided on a defense game and we've consciously tried to tone down on variation in order to try and keep it understandable (both for the eventual player as well as ourselves in all honesty). Main struggle from my perspective (that's the design side) has been the process of exporting assets from blender and importing them into unity. It worked, then it didn't, now it does.. And now we hope it remains in that state, but this will undoubtedly have another chapter.

We've set up our own task lists and aim to be left with a decent buffer to tweak/balance/test after completing the task list. We've decided on our general theme and defined a few gameplay limitations that will have to make sense in terms of final design and we're off to the races!

Day 1 has resulted in the design of the harvester building with 3 levels that have successfully been imported into unity, although it does look quite a bit better in Blender. The assumption is that this has something to do with the overall lighting of the level, I guess we're secretly hoping that this is the case and we can positively affect the overall aesthetic of the game at a later stage when we try to understand the overall lighting settings in unity.

We've also imported the base map tiles, which have been generated with a geometry node setup in blender. And Lewl has already been fiddling around pretty much non-stop like an absolute champ to implement basic features and a solid foundation to build on.

Very excited to get going with day 2 and see where we end up! So far it's been an amazing collaboration and I've enjoyed every little bit of it!

To be continued.
